We'd be looking for nickel in the assays to come back over 1%.

Now think about how you are going to pinpoint that exact 1% on a rock chip.
Don't kid yourselves. The reason gossans/previous rock samples show nickel is because it is weathered rock, and they have become more visible to the surface of the rock.
But hey, you guys appear to be the geologists, DYOR.
