re: no sign either way yet??? oilers all down It sounds like the reason why they don't know whether it's oil or water is because they obviously lost all the drilling mud via a pressure relief system on the BOP's.

Just my interpretation from some stuff on the net (extracts below). I'm tipping there's too many possibilities to draw any real conclusions out of this, but I'm hoping that they hit a nice oil filled reservoir.

http://www.faculty.fairfield.edu/lsteffen/oil/drillingforoil.html..........Under the main working area are a set of pressure monitoring apparati and plumbing directly tied to the the blowout preventers. The blowout preventer has two basic stages. The first is a pipe ram which will kick in and simply try to pinch down on the pipe string to keep it from coming out of the hole. The second is a blind ram which, using very high pressure hydraulics, will slice the string off and cap the well in the event of a full blow-out. Almost all of the time this will stop a blowout from escalating. When it does not you leave the rig quickly and RUN! (let Adair and Co come in and clean up the mess!)

http://www.naturalgas.org/naturalgas/extraction_rotary.asp...........In addition to the fluid itself regulating downhole pressures encountered while drilling, a device known as the 'blowout preventer' is situated on the well casing below the deck of the rig. A blowout can occur when uncontrolled underground oil or gas pressure exerts more upward pressure than the drilling fluid itself can offset. The blowout preventer can consist of hydraulically powered devices that can seal off the well quickly and completely, preventing any potential for a well blowout should extreme downhole pressures be encountered. Pressure release systems are also installed to relieve the great pressure that can be experienced in a blowout situation.
