True, we could at tax payer expense subsidise everything for rural areas.

Why do some folks have to pay $20/30k for a solar system because they are just too far away from the grid? Good solution, lets run the grid to every last house in Aus and the tax payer can foot the bill.

I just had to pay an arm and a leg for a gas main, even though it's within 300 mts from the property. Maybe the tax payer could chip in and share the cost?

Is electric or gas any less of a unnecessary infrastructure than high speed internet? The fact is wireless and satellite internet can be provided to rural areas at far lower costs. Run the fiber to a node in each area and then use wireless at up to 42mg - plenty fast enough for consumers and most businesses.

Why should the tax payer subsidize a business in a rural area?

My examples were of private industry implementing very high speed internet at far lower costs than the NBN. The other mob may not have the answer but at least they are not weded to a $45-90B hit on the tax payer.
