here is a good price discrepancy...
red grapes are $10.99 per kg at the local shop - and all that has to be done is to pick the grapes, put them in a box and take them to the vege shop.
2 litres of renmano tawny port sells for $10 at the local grog shop - and for two litres of wine, one wonders how many kg of grapes need to be picked - maybe 3 or 4 kg.
grapes for wine, need to be delicately picked , gently pressed, then nurtured through a lengthy fermentation process, before being carefully put into wine casks.
the production of wine casks, itself is a complicated process - first of all a tree needs to be planted, harvested etc and turned into carboard - but then the plastic container which actually holds the wine - well, that is probably made from an oil based product - which means that the oil has to be found, refined etc etc.
wine is cheap.
vodka was/is cheap in russia - because people could endure the hard living conditions, so long as they could forget about life, by the simple partaking of a bottle of vodka.
maybe the government in australia, has the same thinking
