We already subsitise most things in the bush.

    -roads
    -electricity
    -phones
    -diesel
    -flying doctor
    -student transport
    -remote & rural tax concessions

    Just to mention a few.

Should we subsitise the bush or can we afford it?

Nobody to my knowledge has done a cost/benefit analysis on this.
Perhaps we should leave the bush to itself, intensely farm the coastal strip
and fertile areas of NSW & Victoria and provide services to these areas.
The money saved could be diverted into processing our minerals and manufacturing goods for the world markets.

In the older days we relied on ag exports.

Agriculture today ,however, only makes up 3% of GDP at the farm gate and
12% post processing which is largely done in urban areas.

    Cheers
