    I dont know enough aboit oil and gas wells so I will ask some dumb questions.

    How would Linc have done the perforations - explosive charges? Surely that would generate heat, melt water then clay expands and the well is wrecked?

    cement generates heat as it cures too doesn't it? Cement casing would be another stupid idea in Umiat context on the face of it if there is any chance of thermal interaction melting the frozen water.

    I'm sure there is more to #18 that we just don't know but cement cased well with perforations sounds like a really bad idea for permafrost on the face of it.
