That's an irreal comment irregardless of who said it.
We have irregular soldiers and account irregularities.
The English language belongs to those who use it.
Hence 'kaput' was stolen from Germany and 'brat'
and 'smithereens' were stolen from Ireland. As in:
"Your brat smashed my vase to smithereens."
Een means 'spirit of'. Poteen is a 'spirit of the
pot' meaning a pot-distilled spirit, or whiskey.
Smithereens are the hot sparks that a blacksmith creates
when he's hammering hot metal. As they vanish into thin
air, the sparks are likened to a spirit. Hence to smash
a vase to smithereens is to smash it into nothingness.
I have a great fondness for the English language.
It's awesome power is self-evident in Shakespeare's
words spoken on the eve of Saint Crispin's Day:
