It doesn't matter if you are side on or front on.

Actually the shoulder charge rule is pretty simple.

At any time you make contact with a player without attempting to wrap your arms around the opponent will be deemed a shoulder charge.

You MUST attempt to wrap an arm or both around the opponent.

In the initial post of slater, it is definitely a shoulder charge.
