They usually jump as soon as they know what the results of the votes coming in are.
And the reason is, that, IMO, it looks better for them to show in their resume that they have resigned from a Directorship position, or whatever else, instead of showing that they have been tapped on the shoulders and got the marching orders.
In this way, no one will ever know the full results of the votes in regard to that particular resolution, as it will remain a mystery.
As such, and IMO, he has been both pushed, and jumped.
