Race Horse Comment Race 1 Sir Moments (1) Punters have only shown interest in the favourite in the opener. He resumed on the Gold Coast and didn’t have the best of luck when sixth to Le Val in the Ken Russell Memorial. This looks a substandard field for a black-type contest and he has the best credentials on paper.
Race 2 Missy Longstocking (1) She arguably should have won the Ken Russell Memorial at the Gold Coast when she was dragged back from an outside draw before flashing home for fourth. Like the first, this is a substandard field for a black-type contest but she is a genuine Stakes class galloper. The only horse in the race the serious punters want anything to do with.
Race 3 Pure Purrfection (6) Racing consistently and was just grabbed on the line when second last start. This is one of the quieter betting races on the programme but the best push has been for the Tony Gollan-trained mare off a good draw.
Race 4 Transporter (7) – GOOD PUSH Comes into this off a career best effort when third to Lights Of Heaven and Foreteller in the Group II Hollindale Stakes. Remains at weight-for-age and there’s been more support for him rather than the other proven weight-for-age performer in the market, Solzhenitsyn (2).
Race 5 Dear Demi (1) – GOOD PUSH Her record says she’s one of Australia’s best three-year-old staying fillies. Won the VRC Oaks then ran second in the Australian Oaks at Randwick last month. Now she lobs in Brisbane, trainer has a good record and you’d have to think her opposition here won’t have as much depth as she face in Sydney and Melbourne. She’s been the main firmer in the race.
Race 6 Sizzling (1) He had no luck at a vital stage in the straight when resuming in the Gold Coast Guineas. He’s Queensland’s best three-year-old, he’s well served under set weight conditions and will appreciate stepping out to 1350 metres. The astute early punters think he’s the horse beat, now he just needs even luck in running to produce his best.
Race 7 Foreteller (4) It’s been a good betting race as you’d expect but the one with the best formlines is the horse that has attracted the most attention. He won the Ranvet in Sydney, ran fifth in The BMW then had no luck when three wide the trip before charging late to go down narrowly in the Hollindale Stakes. Well drawn this week, 2000 metres is perfect and he should be hard to hold out.
Race 8 Belltone (11) – GOOD PUSH Pretty decent go for this Kelso Wood runner. They bet as much as $26 when markets went up but now you’re getting single figure odds. First-up he ran on hard and was only 1-3/4 lengths from the winner on the line in the Prime Minister’s Cup. Never missed a hold second-up and drawn to get all favours.
