democracy is a dream...there is no democracy be it in Americas or in Australia. As communism was open to the abuses of dictatorships, so too democracy especially in the political relm is open to the abuses of the legal profession. It's hard to find in Australia any politician without a law degree. Such a concentration of power by one profession certainly can't make it 'representative' of the people nor 'representative' by the people. Society has been hoodwinked, the power of the sword gave way to the power of the word...but neither necessarily represents the truth, justice nor fairness. The law is full of half truths and there is a direct correlation between how much you pay your lawyer and how innocent you are. This practice is now entrench in the democratic system. Half truths and paying has polluted the essence of democracy.

And just to finish my rant.....for the non-productive nature of the legal profession, they certainly enjoy a good life style.
