The problem might not be the religion itself, but the clerics who have not seen fit to move the religion with the times. They are twisting their followers with aged, barbaric, teachings and principles that might have been relevant in the seventh century - though most non-muslims might say even then that Mohammed was a corrupt and ruthless nutcase and therefore, the religion is completely faulty to its core.
It is crazy that it is the most modern of the main religions and yet it is the most backward.
In theory, this religion needs to be broken down and respun/retaught - in practice, it is heading towards a massive showdown with modern society - I'm too scared to imagine the consequences for either side.
