brown coal export, page-9

Hi Kelcorbett, I spoke to Adam Giles recently in regard to the 'fire' at Bacchus Marsh a couple of years back.

Basically it occured when a JC Steel extruder was just after been installed; they pushed tonnes of brown coal through the extruder running a trial and error, trying to find the optimum plasticity of the brown coal pellet prior to it hitting the flat bed drier'; it all got a bit messy with some higher plasticity runs clooging up and even ripping a conveyor; created a bit of a mess apperantly; anyway...they just ended up running the brown coal through the extruder only and on to the floor, where the outputed material was basically deemed waste, as they continued their trials..

that stock piled material, was effectively just minced and moulded brown coal , looked like pellet, but never hit the bed driers.

From what I gathered the heaps were just accumulating, they weren't running the heaps; hence the build up of heat deep down in the center of the heap; Adam reckons that there was no flames; which would make sence seeing as how they were able to take the material out of the shed with front end loaders. They learned a bit in regard to stockpile and fire management that day.

It was brown coal; not Coldry
