The idea is to wait until the down trend has changed and then average in, in my view. This is called averaging UP even though the SP may be much lower than other holdings in the shares. This is a good strategy.
But averaging down ie whilst the trend is down is a bad idea.
(trust me I did it on LYC and on some other stocks)
