'Imminent': Forthcoming...expected to arrive or happen.

    I actually think that
    a) it should be banned from being used in ASX announcements
    b) it is a perfect word to use when you know of a clear decision but you have no clear deadline or arrival date.

    b) indicates to readers that something is underway and due, but when exactly is uncertain - and in this way, i think 'imminent' is a perfect expression.

But is it a fair expression?
Can it be used, with minimal guilt, to imply something beyond what reality is currently offering? Eg, is it too generous and compensatory a word whilst being an utterly ambiguous word?
Should it be seen as manipulatory word?
Should we from this day forward assume that every announcement by any company that ever uses the word "imminent" is underlining a level of uncertainty within their own projection? (Hence the claims would be premature).

In my opinion, either something that is pending is due by a set date, or it has not been agreed to yet.
Therefore to say that it is imminent is in fact a professional fib, because nothing can be expected without a set contractual outcome being agreed to, such as a date.

In my opinion, "Imminent", as am ASX term, should be banned for it is generally misleading seeing as it is a substitute for 'we don't know when'.
It can be used in such a manipulative way that one could put out an announcement like:
" We are in discussions with a multi-million dollar, multi-national NASDAQ listed company to sell our product and as such a multi-million dollar deal is imminently possibly as a result of those discussions"...what a crock of shit. In other words, we are spieling to a few people and we hope to get a deal out of it but what and when we can't say because we simply don't have any agreements about any of it...but if we continue to speil a deal will come one day (imminent).

I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT ESI IS MISLEADING US IN THIS WAY AT ALL. I am simply commenting on a post about the word "imminent" because it is my pet hate too, after being burned by the notion of 'imminence' before (a deal that amounted to absolutely zero zip diddly-squat nada nil kaput. It was a manipulation of investor confidence by deliberately using a word without mitigating the fact that there was no deal/agreement behind it but only an expectation that one would come soon.
In the case of ESI, we definitely have a strong deal that is taking time due to the enormous transactions that will take place as a result of final diligence (4 - 8 wks away in my opinion). Monash have shown us the promissory note (i think that's what you'd call it) for the $6 Million and it appears to be conditional on whether or not ESI are viewed favourably in the ALDP Granting process - which will be announced within a month or so i'd say - and which is not yet complete.
So in my estimates, Monash can't/won't pay up until all conditions have run their course - then they will pay up.

The occurrence of September is imminent - oops, no its not, its 3 months away.

    Cheers

    L
