HS, Its all very depressing. Politically -generated hysteria now controls the political dialogue in NSW. Gas extraction poses little or no danger to the health and welfare of the people of Casino. Nonetheless, Metgasco is to be put through the wringer on account of fictional dangers conjured up in the same manner as the anti-vaccinationists and anti-windfarm activists.
We shouldn’t need Bill Gates to fly into Australia to tell the people of Mullumbimby that a vaccination rate of less than 50% amongst the children under 5 is shameful and almost criminal. But that's where this particular form of hysteria has led us. Maybe Bill could take time off to tell BOF to man up and do his job. If there are no dangers from methane gas extraction in the US or the UK, then there are none here.
Listen to Background Briefing on ABC to hear how the King Island community is going through the same nonsense. Millions are being spent in Australia investigating “Wind Turbine Syndrome” when the literature says it has no scientific basis. We are equating annoyance with a medical condition – just because you are annoyed or pissed off with something doesn’t mean you are ill. Apparently, Australian wind turbines must be different to US, UK, Irish, Danish and Spanish turbines. The hundreds of reports which failed to find this syndrome in those countries are ignored as politicians seek to pacify communities exposed to this type of politically-motivated hysteria generated by the Greens and their supporters..

When the Howard government was going down in 2006, his Environment Minister stopped the Bald Hills wind farm in Victoria on account of the perceived danger to the orange-bellied parrot. The Libs lost the seat in the 2007 election, the decision was later reversed and the windfarm has gone ahead. But the fictional sighting of the orange-bellied parrots delayed the project for many years.
I guess Metgasco will follow the same route. In 3or 4 years’ time, BOF will be gone off to London as High Commissioner and a new Premier will get it sorted. Shame for shareholders and the Casino economy in the meantime.
