Thanks for the reply on shorting.
I suppose what it boils down to is if the market is in decline then by shorting a stock the shorters are adding to the decline in SP and therefore the wealth of the other 95% of the shareholders and the company's chance to raise funds.
I think the small blokes that short are the only ones that actually have to cover.
So all around shorting does nothing for small players or company value just lines the pockets of the big boys and the ASX.
The only time the big ones lose is if a great announcement is made like you said that happened before that pushes the price well up.Not sure if there is one due but I wouldnt rely on WM to save them like they asked him to do before.
