Australian gold companies need to prove to shareholders that they are worth investing in, and the only way they can do this is by decent dividends and capital returns. What is the point in we holders owning a share of a business that never gives us anything back? The model to date has been to stay invested because the size of the business grows and this translates to share price growth, and this means that if the business changes hands the holders actually get their share of the expanded business. Right now the worth of the business is not understood, and so there is not price appreciation, in fact in this skeptical market there is the opposite. If gold companies don't get cracking and prove the worth of their businesses through the business cycle our sp is just going to slip through our fingers leaving us nothing at all.
