    This I will reply to...

    Aussies have been quite the lucky country relative to the rest of the world.

    They have this unique geographical isolation that has, in the past, given them insularity and a sense of liberty and safety that the rest of the world only dreams about.

    And (I guess) the fact that they didnt have to win their independence at the sharp end of a lance or a gun means they havent had the nationalistic fervour that one sees virtually everywhere else

    Where they did do so - and I would say in a projective sense - is on the sporting field!!!

    But the lots of Iraq and aQ and all the loony muslims together wih the boat people have all shown them that their "island" is no longer the fortress. It is no longer a place that the tyranny of distance affords security.

    So....the nationalistic fervour that is displayed by flags and anthems etc will increase and will do so dramatically

    If it doesnt.....look out!!!
