I'll add one more point BR. Today in Queensland the govt raised the electricity price by 22%. The power generators are blaming the solar panels, they have to pay more for the electricity from solar panels- 44c /kwh, than what they can generate it for. But importantly, the power generators complain that they have to keep their coal fired plants ticking over in case their is a spike in power demand. The generators are mostly humming along at 60% instead of the usual 80% of full power because the solar panels are providing the other 20%. They claim that running at 60% of full power is so inefficient for the generators that they are not actually save any GHG emissions.
The solution is of course DICE generators that are efficient at low power and full power and can ramp up from idle to full power in several minutes. Thereby proving to be highly compatible with the fluctuations of wind and solar.
