With respect, hergerr, if it was only me, I could accept what you say. I always rebelled against 'stupidity'. Peer pressure vanished after a short bout of acceptance in my mid teens. Played team sports etc, but hated being a follower or leader. That could explain after plenty of jobs and a couple of businesses I became a taxi driver. No bosses, no workers, no unions.
When my parents and other Italians came to Aus. they moved in close proximity to other Italians who arrived earlier, probably subconsciously, but that gave them access to help with language, customs and regulations regarding building a house etc. (This is still going on with new nationalities arriving here now). Within a generation, we split from this grouping and mingled. I been married twice, for example, and both times to Australian women of British decent.
But, nevertheless, I've seen lots of ordinary (ie unlike me) 'New Australians' who were constantly subjected to the same insults and derogatory remarks, that were able to shrug them off and become normal adults. IE, not lacking self esteem. It depends on the support you get from family and friends.
Whilst, it ws before my time, what is not generally known is that many thousands were murdered AFTER WW2, merely for being a different nationality, within the new confines of a country. You either left everything behind and escaped within the new borders before being discovered or were murdered. And yet these people still grew up normal. Well nearly, perhaps a bit of hate towards their accusers.
Hergerr, if what you say is correct then there would be millions of self doubters needing help, not tens of thousands. The mind is melleable and forgetful to pain and suffering thank goodness, especiall with love and support, or else not many women would give birth twice.
As far as aboriginality is concerned rather than throw money at them, we should be looking at ways to lift their self esteem. Then, when someone calls them a Black B.. they can call back, "yeah, and proud of it". Lets teach them to fish, not just give it to them.
