it seems that the number one man (Mandawuy Yunupingu) from yothu yindi has died - and just a quick look at the relevant news reports, but nothing was mentioned about his alcoholism - which was the cause of his renal failure.
a quick look through the net, and it seems a son got jail term for killing a relative - lol - just 15 months...

The son of Northern Land Council (NLC) chairman Galarrwuy Yunupingu was sentenced to 15 months' jail today for killing a close relative at his Arnhem Land home.

Chronic alcoholism has shut down Yunupingu's kidneys, and he desperately needs a transplant.
Yunupingu, 53, the 1993 Australian of the Year, said he drank up to four cartons of alcohol a day.
"Alcohol was a big influence in my life. I didn't know what harm it did to my body. Before I knew, it was too late," he said."
