Newspoll has been widely variable over the last 6 or so months. The ALP have been as close as 52-48. The other polls have generally been consistent at around 55-45. It's more likely the other polls have been more consistently accurate than true voting intention has been swinging wildly all over the place. Newspoll appears to be the least accurate of all the major polls but is the one that seems to get the most coverage.
