"I do not own a home and cannot see myself having the money to buy one at current prices.

I am thinking about retiring to some place like Thailand. I can buy an apartment near the beach in Pattaya from about $50,000. A two or three bedroom apartment for about $150,000.
Cost of living is low, no rates just a maintenance fee each year which is low. Medical is cheap and the country has good infrastructure.."

Yes, but you don't actually own it do you?

And one day at any time in the future one of their coup leaders might well decide to not allow foreigners to live there at all.

Oz may be boring, it's cap. cities poor value and whatever, but we do have affordable property in the country and it is relatively secure.

The next time I see tanks on the street in Thailand won't be the first - and I don't want to ever see it again

    Never seen it in Oz.
