The seminar was organised for the purpose of BCIA showcasing the best "coal drying capabilities/technologies" both locally and overseas as they (BCIA) position brown coal as the pilbara for Victoria.
I assume the companies presenting are the best of the best and IMO believe the ALDP will be allocated in the following order but am unsure about the amounts:
1. ECT (australian)
2. Ignite (australian)
3. Exergen (australian)
The above has been arrived at using a process of elimination on the basis of primary purpose conveyed at the BCIA presentation:
(1) RWE - WTA coal drying technology
- Large German based company
- Primary purpose - licencing technology to Australia
- Technology was in operation under WTA 1 in Germany
- WON'T QUALIFY FOR ALDP
- Overseas company - revenues would leave VICTORIA
(2) Torreco - Torrefaction coal/fertiliser technology
- Locally based company
- Primary purpose - ALDP
- WON'T QUALIFY FOR ALDP
- Technology at its infancy and in DEVELOPMENT STAGE
(3) KOBE Steel - UBC (upgraded coal drying, fertilisers and liquids)
- Chinese base company
- Primary purpose - licencing technology in Australia
- Have operated a plant in Morwell in 1980's and this pilot plant still processing VIC coals successfully
- Already PROVEN technology
- WON'T QUALIFY FOR ALDP
(4) Ignite - Cat HTR coal upgrading and Licella HTR upgrading Biomass into Bio-Crude oil
- Australian based company
- Primary purpose - ALDP
- Have 16B Ton of VIC coal
- JV with Exxcon Mobil
- Big on the brown coal oil upgrading space
- Well advanced with it's design and build
- Can upgrade lignite into met coal @ A$37/Ton
- Can upgrade to Syncrude @ A$50/t
- Spoke to their REP at the meeting - they have 16B ton of brown coal asset with $20M in the Bank
- ARE IN THE GAME
(5) ECT - Coldry and Matmor Technologies
- Australian listed Company
- Primary Purpose - ALDP and Coal Allocation
- ARUP engineers (global organisation with three REPS present at the meeting
- DFT ready for Tender (Construction)
- McConnell Dowell and JC Steele - Construction partners
- MOU with AGL
- Site selection plans underway
- Well advanced in Design and Implementation Plans in place - Partnered with GHD
- K-coal off-take
- Funders to be confirmed
- WELL SUPPORTED BY BCIA at the meeting and No 1 presenter
- ARE IN THE GAME
(6)Exergen - Hydrothermal De-watering of low rank Coal
- Australian Company to be listed
- Primary purpose - Coal Allocation and ALDP
- Site Selection at Morwell complete
- Strong Partners in Tata, Theiss, Itochu and Sedgman
- Some doubts creeping into Tata about their design ( as provided by one of their competitors)
- 50/50 JV with MNM in a 1.6B To of JORC coal
- $20M dollars already used on their technology development and pilot by their private backers
- Operated a pilot plant in Beaconsfield that was closed as the mine closed
- Issue raised at the meeting around the work still to be completed on design
- Other proponent questioned the size of the hole required for the autoclave
- Professor cast doubt about its high temperature process
- HAVE SOME ISSUES AND MARGINALLY IN THE GAME
