We don't want to allow toxic lies to be spread. Better to stomp on them and give any proceeds to a local charity. This was my first response: it's a weak act by Lynas.
Then I wondered if there was some broader plan being hatched: some combination of letting the locals off the hook, closing down the toxic anti-Lynas social media, sorting Wong Tak through criminal charges and so on....
It may be the first move in a bigger game with a positive outcome for all. (Except hopefully Wong Tak.)
If that's not the case then I totally agree.
