"Well done to High-profile Goldman Sachs broker Richard Coppleson
"If gold bounces $100 from here – which is not that hard to see – then gold stocks will have a big run."
Actually Richard, its not hard to see gold falling to 1200 then 1100, A broken trend line, looking to re-test support, Why would a 'high profile broker' make such a call with gold trading the way it is??"
Yes Vendor his call had seemingly VERY unfortunate timing HOWEVER to be fair he made the call based on what he expected to happen over the next quarter, not the next few days.
You need to keep in mind his daily commentary is directed at instos not retail investors and those instos need time to accumulate.
They may be doing so during this weakness. One of his picks RRL is one I watch. It was quite strong on the day after Copplesons comments, and yesterday after a big gap down there was strong buying to bring it up well off its lows. So some instos may indeed be buying during this fresh weakness.
The point is that his call was for next quarter not the next few days and the instos do need time to get set and weaker prices are what they will prefer to buy into so its unfair to judge him on a couple of days.
Van Eck took a very large position in SLR on Friday during the very weak sp thanks to the sharp POG drop. They didn't buy that big a position for a short term trade. Maybe their purchase has now taken up much of the near term selling pressure. Can only guess that of course but a lot of volume went through so its plausible, and if so this may be set for a strong rebound Monday after POG failed to continue lower and the HUI managed a rebound.
