I'm tempted to be a little insulting about your logic, but I'll resist.
Give us some reasonable proof that aliens are about to cause a bit of misery in our lives, or take over the planet, and turn us all into hamburgers [after the anal probes], then I'm sure we would all line up to throw money at the problem.
