Thank God for the ABC. Last night on "4 Corners" an investigative TV Crew went to Bangladesh where one thousand underpaid and abused workers died after they were forced back into a creaking and shoddy garment building (that was about to collapse) cos the arrogant slum-lord owner said it was 'safe' when it was cracking up with five thousand workers locked inside, behind iron bars.
The images of slum-lord worker destruction was like Dante's Inferno. Little wonder Aussie companies (who benefit from exploiting poor Bangladesh workers) refused to take part in the ABC's expose of unfettered company greed.
If the Aussie garment retailers (who were named and shamed) could get away with using slaves they would - as Capital has no conscience to save it from its lust for bigger profit margins.
Thank God Australia has strong labour unions. There were some graphic blood-stained shots (in the "4 Corners" program) of what happens to dirt-poor Bangladesh workers - who tried to join a labour union to escape poverty and were savagely bashed with being murdered the next time, if they tried to join a union.
