    re: generic drugs!!! abbotts conundrum This sort of over-riding of patents in emergencies must have happened before.

    There is an obvious distinction between (1) over-riding the patents and paying royalties, and (2) over-riding the patents and not paying royalties. I imagine the former action would not discourage new research so much as the latter.

    Anybody know what has happened in the past - say with wars and equipment.
