Hi Spike, I'm no accountant but my understanding is that you can only claim a loss of Capital in you shares against an actual Capital gain. In other words, you need to have made a capital gain this year in order to benefit from claiming a capital loss.If you make a loss on your shares but dont have a 'gain' to deduct it from, then that loss can be used in later years when you do actually make a capital gain.
