the point is Martin Brynant is a mentally disturbed person - not a criminal.
He certainly should be locked up for our safety - but people like him should never be killed out of the spite of society.
The real culprit in that case never came to trial --------- poor mental health services.
We tried the gun, we tried Bryant -- we never tried the real problem.
The USA has the same problem. We still have the same problem.
Bryant from memory had been for help only just prior to the event - and from memory was turned away ----------

If someone is really sick mentally and does something atrocious - it, to me seems terribly wrong to consider capital punishment in those cases.
I have said before, if I could be absolutely sure of someone being guilty and there being no mental illness involved - I could probably get behind the idea of capital punishment - but, we have a fine track record ---------- we stuff it up many many times - and often for the wrong reasons.-
You see potential Bryant's all the time - all you have to do is hang around an area where a large mental institution has been closed down - the potential is obvious. Ditto, you see many supposedly normal people with anger issues - serious ones - just looking for the right circumstance and conditions - god knows what you do about them - but capital punishment has no answers. Walking through societies like Japan and Finland seem different - their attitude to things is far less violent and confrontational - sure they have nutters and vicious people - but it seems far less ----------- there are lessons there I think.
