I think the closed hedge was a good move, you cant time markets unless you are lucky, and remember they timed the high and only missed the low by a few days
The hedge closed out short term finance, good move at this stage, money will be hard to come by now so its a positive to have 11m less debt don't you think, make it easier to get through the gold correction and recovery phase
