I'm reminded of a discussion I had once with a devout Christian. It was the old classic "which came first - chicken or egg". I said I thought it must be the egg, and what laid the egg wasn't a chicken (evolution in a nutshell?)
His answer was that the chicken must have come first, as it was created by God as described in Genesis.
Neither answer is compelling to me, but I'll go with the former...
