Interesting that this thread has attracted two optimists and a pessimist, so far - not counting myself, since I started it.
For what it's worth, which is not much, admittedly, I am on the side that thinks that the latest political developments are more likely to succour GIP in its search for funding than anything we have been dealing with recently.
I thought the Interim Leader's few words said it all, for most people inside and outside the country, when he disavowed leader worshipping, apparently in favour of a secular democracy. Egypt is one of those rare places in the Middle East where that is achievable, due to its history and the willingness of those who hold the real power to act in the best interests of the country.
Gipsters have had a rough trot in recent years, but I'm feeling a lot better today than I was two and a half years ago, or any time since.
