The reason i would prefer someone with a broader industry knowledge is because the functions of a Non Executive Director which you pointed out, would be better served by such a person.

However, as i commented in the previous post which you are responding to, you can make a difference in the area of Governance. If you take Governance seriously and endevour to make a difference, you have my vote. As for your other responsibilities, as an independant director who would be considered very much the outsider i doubt you will make an impact beyond questioning and signing documents. Perhaps at the very least you will raise their awareness of many issues the shareholders experience.

I'm not a fan of career Directors and would hope the HDR board never sees one.
