re: Ann: Algae.Tec Announces Biofuels Refiner... A bit over the top perhaps, but hey, that probably won't hurt your objectives :P
I do agree that algae oil is conceptually better than solar. Solar has always been the poster child of green energy, which is ironic because it's crap. Solar just makes electricity, and not particularly well. We have better ways to make electricity from an economical point of view (coal being obvious) and if you want to go green there are options like wind, hydro, etc. which wipe the floor with solar. I won't touch the nuclear debate!
We're not going to be flying around in electrical aeroplanes, we're not going to plough fields with electrical tractors, we're not going to ship goods internationally with electrical ships, and while we may replace some or even most/all of the private vehicles with electrical ones, most are going to be liquid-fueled for a long while yet.
Solar raised hopes but has proven to be fairly dismal. Algae oil is a cute concept, but it needs to be proven to be economical. If it's not reasonably competitive with crude, it won't go anywhere big. If it is, it'll be huge. I remain heavily sceptical, but ever open-minded.
