    I don't recall them ever complaining! I don't think my parents ever got any money when my grandparents died, although I've got some of one grandfather's tools (and his father's), one grandmother's piano and the other grandmother's war medal. So they all died pretty much without anything. One grandfather was bankrupt from 1926 to 1953, so there wasn't any money from that quarter but, again, he never complained, even though it was caused by his partner running off with all the money .....

    They just got on with life, living within their means. I remember my mother's parents buying a new carpet - wow, Mum and Dad couldn't wait 'til the next visit (they lived three hours away) to see what it was like! Excitement plus.
