staz, I don't think the liberal leadership is a poisoned chalice but year the policies are on the nose.
Abbott's DAP was an attempt to do something on AGW after doing a backflip on the science is crap statement and he could not back down on a ETS.
PPL was an attempt to win over female voters because he had an image problem with them.
Remember at first Abbott promised to scrap the NBN but there was public support for it so he had to come up with a alternative.
If Turnbull took the leadership, I don't imagine he would keep the DAP and PPL policies. Not sure if he would stick with Abbott's NBN but....
Over all I think Turnbull would be very competitive against Rudd and probably win the election
