Scotty, what LYC is planning to undertake is excellent news as it demonstrates clearly they are looking forward and that Duncan is progressing along the pipe.

I do agree, Tasmania is a disastrous place to undertake any sort of adventure of any scale involving materials with any word that implies 'RADIATION'.

I believe it will fail, because neither the Tas Minority Govt has the balls or the Liberals to get the pilot operational which will require dealing with both the 'Greens Party and its Green Fringe'.

I have friends that live in Tassie as well, and they say the worst part about tassie is the greens party, not those living a green lifestyle.

On the subject of 'Green's', it is my strong belief that the majority of people living on this planet aspire to live a green lifestyle and again the majority do care about the planet. Being a "Greenie", doesn't necessarily mean you are a 'Watermelon', there is a "fringe element" that have a range of political agendas, and these agenda's you really do have to realise are funded by those (special interest groups) who don't want to see change in a particular area, it is those 'Green Fringe Elements', that are funded in a range of different ways by these opponents 'the special interest groups or the faceless ones' and let the 'fringe elements' do the foot work for them at some sort of material or financal cost.

On the point of LYC, you would think that a responsible environmentally sound, with demonstrated ethically proven company with established track records both here in WA and in Malaysia, should be welcomed with open arms if the product they produce can be used to help reduce the worlds reliance on non-renewable resources, such as the carbon based coal industry.

Lynas is clearly one of those companies that is ethically sound in this area, IMHO and goes about demonstrating this every second of every day in a range of demonstrable ways, both in Australia and in Malaysia.

Therefore without continuing a long rant, the Greens Party is made up of various 'Fringe Element' groups all with their own agendas and voting blocks, just like the ALP and its ruthless factions, and again within the Coalition with its 'Wets' and 'Drys', all of these Political Parties have their own interest groups (the masters) and fringe elements to deal with.

So, based on the location for this plant, and Tas being the HQ for the Green Fringe, this Pilot if given approval would be subject to similar 'Fringe Element' activity as we have had to endure in Malaysia.

It just makes me question the sanity of the Board of Lyc. Why not build it in Western Australia, we have a safe conservative Govt here and even if labor got in in WA, they have a tolerance policy for uranium. Plus there is more than ample access to electricity from the gas generated power stations from the NW shelf gas.

I hope it has success and is approved, but you can never shut the 'Fringe' up because at the end of the day, 'Special Interest Groups', will find a means of funding them, or providing some sort of material support so that they can engage in delaying activities.

Maybe a change at the board level might be required including the PR Dept.

I am a very active participant in the use of green technology, and I also have a very deep personal connection to the land of which I use and a respect for the environment with a neutral carbon footprint. Like I am sure more and more people are aspiring to, even on this forum, but it does not make us part of the 'fringe', simply because we aspire to being green. Just my thoughts like it or lump it.
