I think everyone has been guilty of leaving vast wads of cash on the table re early exit or selling into support.

I trade don't hold as a general rule and only touch stocks in an uptrend ie OXR is a classic example.
You should set your SL on entry at whatever then if the market moves with you recaluate your SL to accomodate the trend.

ie say you buy OXR at 20c and set your stop at say 18c
(Just numbers guys your stop is your stop but in this instance 10%)

Then if market move with you adjust % stop;

OXR at 24c SL 21c ie approx 12%
OXR at 28c SL 23c ie approx 14%

and so on.

You say to yourself when entering trade my exit is when and ONLY when my SL is triggered.

Me thinks this sort of exit strategy is relevant to current gold run.
