Chillam, there is information available on other 'blocks' and the information provides similarity to B105's geology and general hydrocarbon prospectivity.

The closest (external) appraisal well is 13-2-1. I have a sneeking suspicion that CNOOC do not want to release the exact location as well as other important tid bits about it because the well IS outside of Chinese waters.

However there are some important take-outs which I have been tracking over the years (point-form as I dont have time to provide diagrams):
    1. Dongfang, is basically in the same basin as B105. The locations are slightly differentiated by what looks like a depression which the chinese gas field sit within. Having said this, the various formations look almost identical.
    2. The presence of diapirs (worldwide) and hyrdrocarbons is well documented. B105 drill target has a well defined geological diapir.
    3. The diapir is on an anticline - providing the setting for underground movements, thus creating 'traps'.
    4. Numerous faults can be seen along the flank and above the diapir, thus providing for taps but also (at one point) providing for migration pathways of potential hydrocarbons. These diapiric-faults have proven to indicate gas within the basin.
    5. The 3D-seismic shows numerous 'bright' spots. To truely get existed about such statements it helps to understand how seismic is intrepreted. When gas charges the permeable beds surrounding a diapir, high amplitude anomalies (bright spots) are often observed - history indicates the presense of hydrocarbons.
    6. Similarly, you'd want to see evidence of a 'pull-down' which is a reduction in the seismic speed at the edge of a gas body/chimney. You can see this in the NEN seismic via the dipping in the horizontal reflections. It occurs as sound travels 'slower' through gaseous sediments.
    7. The age of the beds is the same/similar of recent finds.

In addition to the estimated size of the play, I believe the initial drill target has been derisked as much as possible. I cant think of how you could take it any further pre-spud.
