What do you do to make a provision for your old age ?
Even if are you a state worker who has it done for you , if that pension is based on a fund , as for instance UK local authority workers pensions are , that fund probably includes shares in household name companies I would not touch for ethical reasons .
Shale is technically challenging in the UK because of the geological history of being involved in the last three mountain building exercises leading to faulting - Cuadrilla managed to pressure lubricate a fault until it slipped .
Our engineers are up to the challenge though and even the engineer I was talking to who worked for Campaign for Protection of Rural England said "I think we can do this" .
If you are hoping for a disaster you may be disappointed .

Renewable is not the only possible long term future . Mankind may learn to sustain and harness hot fusion or cold fusion could be proven or some completely new and unforeseen could come along .
Even if renewables met 100% of our current electricity needs due to improvements in energy storage , this would probably be a century away and we still need twice as much energy again for transportation and heating .
