Morning,

"What does 'fugally participating in life' mean to you? I'm not having a go but would like an incite into how others live. Does the fact i (we) drive old cars and cook our own dinner make us frugal?"


Well, yes it does in fact. Nothing wrong with it. But, the fact remains that many people like new cars, not old cars and dining out is a very popular experience for many if not most people in the developed world.
Overseas travel is also popular.

These types of activity are very stretched at $40k a year.

One small clothes shopping trip for clothes one actually likes, lunch out and perhaps a coffee in between can punch a mighty big hole in $1000.

However, if one likes to live with old cars,old clothes, home cooking etc. I agree, it is possible and it is ok - but, let's not deny it - it is frugal. And, if one enjoys overseas experience, nice clothes and a nice car, let alone private medical cover - then $40 k is just existing.
