Exactly DHG! Even operating mines generally have to contend with groundwater. There are plenty of good historic mines that in the 1800s in their heyday stripped forrests bare for miles around to keep the steam pumps operating 24 hours a day... if they could do it then, they can do it now. I was being a bit mischievous in highlighting the equivalent of 2000 olympic swimming pool comparison but I figured it might promote some discussion on looking at what technical challenges lay ahead. There's a gold mine here in Victoria that was the premier gold producer anywhere in Australia for a few years. Was reopened briefly about 25 years ago.. listed on the ASX and bought out by the biggest producer in the world... they ceased operations and filled in the mine shaft citing amongst other things... the water table... it's all fixable and with efficent modern pumps not a problem.
