No contradiction(that I can see, or perhaps I haven't explained myself well). Just saying that a consequence of good times and a lucky country is complacency. Complacency all to easily turns into apathy. Suits our political rulers well..

Perhaps we will have to wait and see if fears are unfounded or not. Going by common sense and current European experience I'd say we might have a definitive answer sooner than we think.

When I am more likely to get arrested for standing on a street corner denouncing muslim immigration than supporting it, I'd say I'm not doing anyone's work for them.

If I were a truly Machiavellian politician, I'd do my best to "ghettoize" society. Better to have them at each other's throats than mine, and more unlikely they could unite against me.
