Good point generic microbe science is a wonderful branch of knowledge but a narrow one.
Science is the study of process it requires the reproducibility of experiments.
You cannot scientifically prove that the Battle of Waterloo occurred a bit like trying to use a thermometer to measure the speed and direction of the wind.
Not bagging the validity of a thermometer it just isn't the right test to answer the question.
