"Show me one other culture anywhere that follows..."
No society anywhere can follow all these to the tee. Some are useless for our discussions, others i reiterate, are just general rules that should be followed and are followed to an extent by people with strong moral values (before they became commandments on stone and all)
1. No other God
Sounds like a whoever wrong that law was a little paranoid that the worshiper might look at the other 1000 religions going around and think that one of them works a bit better for me. So they threw that one in (obvious)
2. Idols
This commandment does confuse me i admit, it also confuses a great deal of people. Its useless to be honest. I honestly wasnt including this in my post, because its useless when it comes to morality and our conversation. Muslims follow a similar belief with depecting their prophit. I'd be interested to see your reasoning why this betters humanity and is a commondment we can not live without.
3. Gods name is vein and such
This is used to styphal negative discussion of God so it can be punished as blasphomy. Again it has no use in a modern world or a debate of whats moral or ethical. Useless for our discussions.
4. Sabbathy holy
Sunday is holy day. Again this is useless to our debate of religion and morals. But it means i get a day off work so im not complaining.
5. Honor your parents.
Yep. This has a place in society regardless of religion. Most societies respect this and would have been respecting it long before religion. Man is born from inside his mother and is equal parts his father. Of course they'll respect them.
6. Murder
Yeah so this was punishable before and after religion wether tis an eye for an eye or through other punishment. No brainer, simply a rule that was in place and made it onto the tablets.
7. Adultry
Define adultry... This one may or may not have a place in morals and that comes down to the individual and community.
8. Do not steal
Again this is a natural law and it was both obeyed and broken before and after religion.
9. Do not lie
Ideally nobody should lie, but sometimes its better than the truth. This commandment is really hypocritical when you consider the things religion states in the bible! Nowhere it in the world would obey this one all the time.
10. Covet
I don't know anywhere where this is obeyed other than maybe in budhist societies. The major religions certainly do not obey this very well.
