Papertiger - re some many potentials and their ultimate rate of success.

My UNprofessional thoughts on this are - for those with 1min to spare and who can't get to Disneyland this year :) (although Mickey would likely know more).

I think one of the real game changers is the research itself, it is different to past generations. The new generation of biotech firms, are largely the product of unequaled preclinical research and with gene and cell technology, underlying action is much more profound in the human system, so the treatments have a better shot at success - it won't be universal success, but "hit rates" will likely be materially higher than ever before. In a nutshell, the science is way better than it was even a decade ago - makes you wonder about a decade from now ie, MIT and GSK have recently teamed up with a 10yr plan to bring the first "electroceuticals" to market - another new field with profound treatment potential!

Finally - remember too that "failure" in any candidate is rarely total failure - things are always learned and it's amazing how another pathway can unexpectedly open up to a previously "failed" application!
