"So loki, as a sub scriber to d and d as well as asi with very little joy have you had any profitable and or helpful advice from any of the ppp newsletters? Or should I just use me subscriptions by throwing money at a dart board?"

In December 2008 DnD had a quest article by the person who manages the GoldNerds website. There were several recommendations in that article that did well (obviously this was the bottom for the goldies so there would be winners). I bought into their recommended SLR (which I had never heard of before) because of the high grade deposit and that did very well for me.

Besides SLR I have not bought any shares recommended in DnD but several shares I have held have been recommended by them, eg PGI, GMR, AZH, EVR, PIR.

The problem with DnD is that they did not recognise the downtrend in gold and goldies and get their subscribers out of the market. Basically goldies have have been uninvestable in the last 2 years, although you could trade them if you knew have to trade bounces. I suppose the same could be said for the rest of the mining industry.

Industry specific newsletters like DnD have a conflict of interest. Their only reason for existence is to recommend going long so they will always ramp companies even when the trend is downhill. If they have no recommendations for a long time then what is the point of subscribing other than as an act charity or to be mildly amused by their articles?

I used to subscribe to Fat Prophets but after I had an argument with the author of article supporting VRE, I decided he knew about as much as me, and I did not want to read his rubbish. I do not know if they have improved since I stopped following them.

Stockanalysis used to have some useful reviews on the oil/gas/csg sectors but in the end this is the area where you have to be a good trader rather than a investor and their calls became pretty ordinary so I ceased my subscription 2 years ago. They also made some recommendations in the minerals sector, some were OK but some where stinkers (eg CRK/KGM).

In the end you have do your own slogging. Most broker reports are poor but they are worthwhile reading to get a feel for how they do their analysis and to see what issues they pick up.

Finally conditions in the minerals sector and company operations are changing all the time. You can not afford to take your eye of the ball.
